Origin: The Hidden Rose apple was discovered in the 1960s on a fruit farm in Airlie, Oregon. The farm’s owner took a bite from an apple off a mature tree and was surprised to find it had a pinkish-red interior. After the farm was sold in 1966, the apple was rediscovered in the mid-1980s by the farm’s field manager, who, after tasting another apple from the same tree, recognized its uniqueness. The tree’s scions were grafted onto other trees, and in 1992, the first Hidden Rose orchard was planted. This special apple is now certified by The Oregon Tilth Organization and the United States Department of Agriculture.
